Hakbong Head House in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is the head house of the Uiseong Kim Clan. Originally built by Joseon scholar and educator Hakbong Kim Seong-il, it was moved to its present location in 1964. As a head house it has an unusually wide daecheong, as well as a large yard and garden with various trees and oddly shaped rocks. Concerts are regularly held at the old house. Hakbong’s descendants inherited not just this historic house, but also his patriotic spirit, many of them devoting themselves to the anti-Japanese independence movement.

Daegam’s house, Yeonggam’s house, and Jeongseung’s house have wide floor areas, big yards many rooms, while Saengwondaek and Chambongdaek are simpler, straight-roofed hanoks. All houses have modern toilets. The barn, warehouse and traditional kitchens are presented as they were in Joseon times. As well as arts and crafts the complex houses a traditional pottery village, a pottery exhibition hall, a folk museum, and the intriguing Flower Stone Museum.
House of Changsil (창실고택)

Changsil Old House is a courtyard hanok in Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It was built in 1917 by Sim Ho-taek of Songso as a home for his younger brother. The anchae (women’s house) and the sarangchae (men’s house) are arranged side by side, with the connected library and storeroom between them. Just inside the gate is a haengnangchae (servants’ quarters), and there is also a thatched hanok which is currently being rented out as a red clay room.
Chalbanggong Head House (찰방공종택)

Chalbanggong Head House, located in Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, was built in 1933 and is the head house of the 9th generation of Cheongsong Sim, Eun-gong Ak. Formerly used as a school, it is now a local cultural heritage centre. The U-shaped layout and the north gate are unique, and facing the entrance is the Songso Old House, comprising 99 rooms with traditional Korean wall paper and bedding. There is a wood-burning ondol room, a large yard, and a kitchen garden - a quiet, relaxing spot where you can hear only the sound of the wind and the birds.

Wonrakjae is a detached house with a 460-year-old pine tree in the yard and a view of Hahoe Village in the background, while Sesimjae is the building Seoae used as a private school.

Andong Old House Lee Sangnu stands at the foot of Cheondeungsan Mountain in Andong, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The house has a 250-year history and is still used for family rituals commemorating the founder of the Andong Kim Clan. Lee Sangnu is a dignified two-story wooden pavilion with an attic, while at Yisangru visitors can set a fire in the fire pit in the winter or sleep in a tent or mosquito net in the summer. Cultural programs are available: tea ceremonies, knot craft, the mask dance, natural dyeing, Korean paper craft, and learning about filial piety. The Old House’s location between Andong Hahoe Village and Dosan Seowon makes it convenient for local site-seeing.
