Seoul Gwanmunsa Temple (관문사(서울))

Located at the foot of Umyeonsan Mountain in Seocho-gu, Seoul, Gwanmunsa Temple had its ground-breaking ceremony in 1993 and construction was completed in October 1998.

The temple site has a total area of 22,148.76 ㎡ with seven ground levels and four basement levels. The temple was constructed with a mixture of modern and traditional Buddhist architectural designs. Inside the temple, cutting-edge facilities are used for various cultural events, conferences, and sacred ceremonies.

Neighbored by Cheonggyesan Mountain, Umyeonsan Mountain, and Yangjaecheon Stream, the temple is located near many natural spots visitors can enjoy. In particular, Umyeonsan Mountain (alt. 293 m), where Gwanmunsa Temple is located, gets its name for its shape resembling a cow lying down. Designated as a city park and managed by Seoul Metropolitan Government, Umyeonsan Mountain has several valleys with clear spring waters and a dense forest inhabited by diverse animals and plants.

Temporary Palace at Hwaseong Fortress (Hwaseong Haenggung Palace) (화성행궁)

A haenggung is a temporary palace where the king and royal family retreated to during a war. Hwaseong Haenggung Palace is the largest one of these, used by the Joseon kings since the time of King Jeongjo (r. 1776-1800). In addition to being used as a shelter during war, King Jeongjo also stayed here during trips to worship at his father's tomb. The palace was the location of a splendid feast held on the 60th birthday of his mother, Hyegyeonggung Hong, and many other events, including award certificates for successful candidates of special national exams. These days, the palace serves as a venue for many traditional cultural performances and activities.

With a design inspired by the royal vehicle used by King Gojong and palanquins of the Joseon dynasty, Hwaseong Fortress Tourist Trolley provides visitors with a comfortable tour around the main attractions of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. It is divided into a sightseeing course that starts at Hwaseong Haenggung Palace and visits the main gates, and a circular course that starts at Yeonmudae Post and visits the main military facilities. Reservations are required on the website. All seats are equipped with an earphone jack offering an audio guide of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress in English, Chinese and Japanese.

Hapjeongok (합정옥)

Hapjeongok is a gomtang (beef bone soup) specialty restaurant located near Hapjeong Station. Using domestically sourced beef brisket and bones, they prepare around 100 servings of soup each day. The signature dish is the rich and subtly fragrant gomtang, complemented by menu items such as yukhoe (beef tartare) and suyuk (boiled pork slices) that go well together.
