During the Gihae Persecution of 1839, three French Catholic priests were sentenced to death for spreading Catholicism in Korea. Saint Laurent Joseph Marius Imbert (Bishop), Saint Pierre Philibert Maubant (Priest), and Saint Jacques Honore Chastan (Priest) were beheaded on September 21, 1839 at Saenamteo, currently known as the Saenamteo Catholic Holy Place of the Martyrs, and their bodies were buried at Samseongsan Mountain and later transferred to the grotto of Myeondong Cathedral.

The Children's Zoo of Incheon Grand Park is located near the south gate, and is home to over 230 animals in 27 species. The zoo mostly features gentle animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, Japanese macaques, marmosets, fennec foxes, wallaroos, meerkats, macaws, ostriches, and other non-dangerous animals. The zoo also houses protected Korean animals such as eagles and the Eurasian eagle-owl. To prevent accidents and animal stress, the zoo does not operate any animal feeding programs.

Namsan Outdoor Botanical Garden opened its doors on February 18, 1997 in Hannam-dong, where the residential complex for foreigners once stood before it was demolished in 1994. With about 2,000 shops and stores lining every street, visitors can experience a multicultural atmosphere. Also famous in the district is Antique Furniture Street where more than 100 shops selling furniture and antiques stretch from Hamilton Hotel toward Bogwang-ro.
Travelers can taste authentic cuisine and experience culture from around the globe on World Food Street where there are 40 restaurants operated by foreigners. Since the late 1990s, an increase in the number of tourists from Southeast Asia and the Middle East has transformed the streets from being US Army-oriented into culturally diverse. Various performances and events are held in the area. In particular, Itaewon Global Village Festival, held every October, is a famous festival.
