Goransa Temple (고란약수)

Nabawi Catholic Church (화산천주교회(나바위 성당))

Nabawi Catholic Church is located in Hwasan-ri, Mangseong-myeon in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do Province and is known as the oldest surviving catholic church in the Jeolla-do region. The church was built in 1906 to commemorate the return of priest Kim Dae-geon in 1845 (Joseon dynasty) after he was ordained in Shanghai, China. Inside the church stand two monuments: one built in 1954 to honor Joseph Vermorel (French missionary, 1860-1937) and one built in 1955 to honor priest and martyr Kim Dae-geon. Considered the most significant catholic relic of the Jeolla-do region, the church is sought out by large numbers of Catholic visitors each year.

Chilgapsan Provincial Park (칠갑산도립공원)

Chilgapsan Mountain, located in Cheongyang-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, was designated as a provincial park in 1973. This mountain, 561 meters above sea level, has been called “The Alps of Chungcheongnam-do.” Chilgapsan Mountain area has many peaks, a thick forest and beautiful valleys. Each season has its own unique atmosphere. There are romantic cherry blossoms in spring, vivid green leaves in summer, autumn tints in fall and a snow-covered landscape in winter. Mountaineers visit all year round and can choose from seven courses.

Alps Village (알프스마을)

Nonsan Myeongjae House (논산명재고택)

Myeongjae House in Nonsan, also known as Yoon Jeung's House, faces the village. At its backdrop is the scenic landscape of Noseongsan Mountain, and behind the gates is a large rectangular pond. Inside the pond, there is a small, round rock, as if an island, where a 300-year-old tree has stood the test of time alongside the old house. Walk past the pond and ascend the stone steps to the front yard, where a sarangchae (main guest room) greets visitors. In 1984, the house was recognized for its value and designated as a National Folk Cultural Heritage. This traditional house offers hanok stays, as well as experience programs such as tea ceremonies, natural dyeing, and traditional music performances. Nearby attractions include Noseongsanseong Fortress, Noseonghyanggyo Confucian School, Noseong Gwollisa Temple, and the main neighborhood of Noseong-myeon.

Nonsan Gwanchoksa Temple (관촉사(논산))

Gwanchoksa Temple in Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do is located at the foot of Banyasan Mountain (100 meters in elevation). This temple enshrines a Seokjomireukbosalipsang Buddha (Treasure), which was built over the course of 38 years, beginning in 967 during the Goryeo period. According to legend, while a lady was picking fernbrake on Banyasan Mountain, she heard a baby crying. When she went over, there was no baby but instead was a large rock sticking out from the ground. Upon hearing this story, the government ordered a Buddha statue to be made from the rock. This Buddha statue, widely known as ‘Eunjimireuk Buddha,’ is the largest stone Buddha in Korea (18.12 meters in x_height, 9.9 meters in girth, 1.8 meters in the length of ears, 2.43 meters at the x_height of crown). There are many other cultural heritages in this temple and every April, a splendid cherry blossom tunnel stretching from Nonsan to Gwanchoksa Temple is at its peak.

Nonsan Jijangjeongsa Temple (지장정사(논산))

Upon finishing his thousand-day prayers in Gyeryongsan Mountain in June 1980, Monk Deoksan came down to the site of an old temple in Noseong-myeon, Hwagok-ri and built Jijangjeongsa Temple. The upper part of the current Daeungjeon Hall was once the main hall of Jijangam Hermitage and was originally about 33 square meters. Daeungjeon Hall was later expanded to its current size. In 1995, Yeongsanjeon (Cheonbuljeon) Hall was built and in 1997, Seonjae Preschool was opened. The temple is open for praying and meditation and also has a charnel house. The temple and its followers are loyally devoted to the practice of Buddhism in its purest form.

Cheonjangho Suspension Bridge (천장호 출렁다리)

Built in 2009, this emblematic suspension bridge of Cheongyang stretches a total of 207 meters. Its most striking feature is a 16-meter-high main tower in the middle, ingeniously crafted to resemble Goji berries and red peppers, Cheongyang’s proud local produce. Below it is a narrow 1.5-meter-wide, 20-meter-long bridge, which starts to sway subtly both vertically and horizontally, offering a gentle thrill to whoever walks on it. This bridge is engineered to swing up to 30 to 40 centimeters, adding to the excitement of the crossing. Upon reaching the other side, visitors are greeted by an observatory and a trail leading up to Chilgapsan Mountain. For those who prefer a less strenuous journey, a leisurely stroll around Cheonjangho Lake towards Hwangnyongjeong Pavilion is a delightful alternative. The lake, overarched by the suspension bridge and nestled at the foot of Chilgapsan Mountain’s eastern reaches, presents a spectacular vista, rightfully counted among Cheongyang's most celebrated sights. The hiking trail ascends to the top of Chilgapsan Mountain, offering yet another perspective to appreciate the beauty of Cheonjangho Lake, the Cheonjangho Suspension Bridge, verdant forests, and charming valleys. An especially unique experience is visiting the Cheonjangho Suspension Bridge at night when it’s aglow, revealing a mesmerizing nocturnal allure.
