Yongchugyegok Valley (용추계곡)

Located in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, this picturesque valley takes its source from the 900-meter high Kalbongsan Mountain, winding around Ongnyeobong Peak. Stretching over 24 km, it is home to nine remarkable sights, earning it the nicknames "Nine Okgye Valleys" and "Nine Yongchu Valleys." Blanketed by pine nut forests, the valley’s clear waters flow past rocky walls and ridges, forming natural pools along its course. A notable highlight is the 5-meter tall Yongchupokpo Falls about 6 kilometers upstream, accompanied by a legend of a dragon’s ascent to heaven; a deep groove in the adjacent sloping rock is believed to be the dragon’s resting spot. Flanked by Yumyeongsan, Jungmisan, and Eobisan Mountains, the valley offers an excellent short hiking route for a half-day excursion.

Chungnyeongsan Mountain is historically significant, with its connection to King Taejo Yi Seonggye, the founder of the Joseon dynasty. Standing at an elevation of 879 meters, the mountain offers three hiking trails. The summit provides an exceptional view, particularly in autumn, when it becomes a prime spot for enjoying the colorful foliage.

Genghis Khan Yetgohyang is a restaurant that serves Mongolian-style lamb dishes along with Korean dishes. Their signature dish, Khan jeongsik (Mongolian-style set menu), features suyuk (boiled lamb slices), galbi, mandu, and hotteok (griddlecake with sugar filling), all of which are also available as individual items. They also offer Korean dishes like sanchae bibimbap (wild vegetable bibimbap) and haemul pajeon (seafood and green onion pancake) for those who prefer alternatives to lamb. Located inside Herb Island (a tourist farm spanning 329,000 square meters), Herb Island Herb Healing Center is the largest herbal botanical garden, registered as a class 1 specialized museum (botanical garden) with a botanical garden and exhibition halls (110,000 square meters). Approx. 250 kinds of herbs and various other plants are planted inside the herbal plant museum so visitors can see beautiful green plants throughout the year. The herbal plant museum consists of a total of four exhibition spaces, three indoor and one outdoor.
