Located on the Yeosubando Peninsula, the city of Yeosu is made up of three historic areas that share the Sino-Korean character “Ryeo” (beautiful: 麗) in their names, namely Yeosu-si, Yeocheon-si, and Yeocheon-gun. The trio was integrated and became one city in April of 1998. Jasan Park is located at the entrance to Odongdo Island’s embankment. It is a place where one can have a view of the city of Yeosu, Odongdo Island, and the sea at Namhae. Climb the steep stairs to the top and find thousands of evergreen trees and plants, planted on a wide plateau. The park also has a 15-meter statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, the largest in Korea, unveiled as a part of the great hero’s birthday in 1967 and the first Jinnamje Festival. Inside the park are Jasangak Pavilion and Chunghontap Tower overlooking the sea. Ilchuljeong Pavilion was added in 1998 to serve as a refuge for the citizens of Yeosu.

Romantic Cart Bars (낭만포차거리)

Romantic Cart Bars is a street located under the Yeosu Geobukseon Bridge, where numerous food trucks gather. Eighteen food trucks offer a variety of signature dishes made with seafood. Popular among tourists, visitors can enjoy delicious food while admiring the night view of Yeosu's sea and the bridge. Nearby attractions include the Hamel Lighthouse and the Yeosu Maritime Cable Car.

Heungguksa Temple (Yeosu) (흥국사 (여수))

The name of Heungguksa Temple means “if the country prospers, the temple does well.” The temple was established to pray for the country to flourish. Located on Yeongchwisan Mountain, Heunaguksa was founded by Bojo Guksa in 1195.

Within the compound are other buildings including Wontongjeon, Palsangjeon and Daeungjeon (Main Hall). The temple’s main hall, a Treasure, is open in its structure and equipped with traditional Korean doors. A Buddhist painting named Hubultaenghwa is designated as a Treasure. At the entrance to the temple is a rainbow-shaped stone bridge called Honggyo Bridge,a Treasure, which is widely known as a distinguished work of art.

On Yeongchwisan Mountain, azaleas begin to bloom in early April and completely take over the mountain by the end of the month. Azalea blossoms create an extravagant view along the ridgeline of Yeongchwibong Peak (439 meters above sea level) and Jillyebong Peak (510 meters above sea level). During this period, the Mount Yeongchwisan Azalea Festival takes place.

Yeosu Yeongchwisan Mountain (영취산 (여수))

Yeongchwisan Mountain is not very tall, rising just 510 meters above sea level, but the mountain has long been deemed as a spiritual guardian of the Yeosu peninsula. During the old days, people held rituals for rain or offered wishful prayers here. Geumseongdae and Dosolam Hermitage are two Buddhist places of worship on the mountain.

As Yeongchwisan Mountain is not very tall, taking any hiking course will lead hikers to the peak within about four hours. The mountain is a perfect place for family travelers to go hiking. Yeongchwisan Mountain is also widely known as the first place in Korea where azaleas begin to bloom in the spring, and is one of the top three most famous places in Korea for azalea blossoms. In April each year, the azalea festival is held in the mountain. The festival offers a variety of programs including a ritual for the god of the mountain, a writing contest for students, a photo contest, and Miss Azalea beauty pageant. During the festival, visitors can enjoy various events and local foods.

The Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Yeosu is a 24-storey hotel in Dolsan-eup, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do. The hotel faces the sea, with Hallyeohaesang National Park on one side and Dolsan Neighborhood Park on the other. Guestrooms come either with an ocean view, a view over Yeosu’s famous Dolsan Bridge, or a view of Yeongchwisan Mountain. Ramada Zip Trek, the first of its kind to be offered above a five-star hotel in Asia, begins 130-meter above sea level and takes you along the line at an exhilarating maximum speed of 80 km/h. Let yourself be taken along a rollercoaster ride through the sea breeze. Because the ride is offered outdoors, operations may be suspended in the case of inclement weather or maintenance, so visitors are advised to check ahead.

Yeosu Gasari Ecology Park (여수 가사리 생태공원)

Yeosu Gasari Ecology Park is a converted wetland area where the sea and river meet. It features various wetland plants and bird species, along with expansive reed fields and deck paths. Equipped with bicycle paths, it is also popular among travelers who enjoy cycling. During sunset, visitors can witness the spectacular crimson sky.

Mosageum Beach (모사금해수욕장)

Mosageum Beach is a beach located on Odongdo Island within the Hallyeohaesang National Park. Located in Sinpung-ri, Yulchon-myeon, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do, Aeyangwon Church (Reverend Son Yangwon Martyr Memorial Hall) commemorates Reverend Son Yangwon. He began his religious activities and relief efforts at a group home for patients suffering from Hansen's Disease located in Aeyangwon Church, but he was later detained at Yeosu Police Office because he refused to honor Japanese Shinto shrines in 1940.

The Memorial Hall's construction was completed on March 27, 1994 in order to commemorate Son Yangwon, who was shot and killed by the North Korean army during the Korean War.

The exhibition hall on the first floor displays photos of Son, photos related to Christianity, keepsakes and calligraphy artwork, and the exhibition hall on the second hall displays his prison writings and old books.

Yeosu Art Land (여수예술랜드)

Dolsando Island located in Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do, is famous for its beautiful camellia flowers. Hyangiram Hermitage lies at the eastern tip of the island where you can see the beautiful sunrise. Unlike other seas, the sea of Dolsando has unique scenery created by uninhabited islands, which stick out here and there from the sea, and its scenery in harmony with the emerald-colored water arouses the admiration of onlookers. Yeosu Art Land Resort is located near Somisan Mountain from which you can view three islands - Naechido, Oechido and Hyeoldo - floating as if they are wandering on the sea, and it boasts more outstanding scenery than any other resorts. In particular, the “Hand of Midas,” which extends out towards the sea, has been selected online as a must-visit photo spot of Korea and attracts countless number of tourists every day.
