Started in 2005 and celebrating its 11th festival this year, the Nami Island International Children’s Book Festival is a picture book themed culture and arts festival that offers various programs combining literature, art, music, and nature.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Korea and Finland, Finland has been designated as the guest country of honor, and “sisu”, the spirit of the Finns, is the main theme of the festival.

Jarasum Island takes its name from its view of a hill resembling a terrapin, "jara" in Korean. Comprising four smaller isles—Dongdo, Seodo, Jungdo, and Namdo—the island is being developed with leisure and ecological park amenities. Jungdo features a sprawling cultural park, centered around a lush grassy plaza that spans over 100 meters in diameter. The garden spans over an area of 33,000 square meters with a 1,090 square meter butterfly ecology center, making it the largest butterfly park in the world.
