In Dongbu-dong, there is a 8.35 meters (27 4/10 feet) high brick pagoda from the Unified Silla Kingdom Period (AD 654-935). Each brick is 27.5 cm (10 4/5 inches) long, 6 cm (2 1/3 inches) thick and 12.5 cm wide (4 9/10 inches). In the past, it was 7 stories high. In 1598, during the Japanese Invasion of Korea, the top motif was destroyed and the structure was further damaged during the Korean War. The pagoda was repaired in 1962. Rumour has it that the pagoda was once located inside the old Beomnimsa Temple. The Dangganjiju, which is located 5 meters west from the pagoda, supports this story. One can see the small place to keep sculptures of the god on each floor.
By looking at these with the tiled roof, it is possible to see what style was fashionable. On the second story from the southern viewpoint, one can see the beautiful remnants of the In Wang-sang statue. It is conveniently located on the left side of an open space at the end of the parking lot at Andong Train Station.

Since the 1970s, there has been a chicken alley in Andong Old Market where both raw chicken and fried chicken are sold. But, as seasoned spicy chicken became popular, merchants in the chicken alley needed to find a solution and this is how a fusion dish called Andong jjimdak, or braised chicken, was born. The dish is cooked with the seasoning of braised galbi and boiled down after adding glass noodles and different vegetables. Its sweet and spicy flavors, inexpensive price and abundant amount made the dish an instant hit nationwide, and "Chicken Alley" naturally changed its name to "Jjimdak Alley." Today, there are some 30 stores in business on this street that attract over 20,000 tourists on weekends. Although Andong jjimdak is not a traditional dish that has been passed down for generations, "Suun Japbang" and "Eumsik Dimibang," a pair of the oldest cooking books in Korea, talk about a cooking method that seems similar to that of Andong jjimdak in the Andong region from a long time ago. Andong jjimdak is protein-rich and contains vitamins and various nutrients from different types of vegetables, which makes it a nutritionally sound dish as well.

In the 1830s, there were many fifth-day markets in Andong, operating in different neighborhoods on different days. Among these many markets, the market opening on days ending in 2 and 7 at Bunae saw great success in 1909, selling a range of products from fresh produce to livestock, fish, and local specialties such as ramie cloth and Andong soju. It was combined with the Sindang Market in 1963 to become a permanent market when Andong was upgraded from a county to a city. Because of it's long history, this market is also referred to as Andong Gu Market (Old Market), and it is the best place to visit to experience all that a traditional Korean market has to offer.
