La leyenda dice que Samseonghyeol es el lugar donde tres semidioses, los fundadores de Tamna (nombre original de Jeju), aparecieron por primera vez. Vivieron cazando durante un tiempo y se casaron con tres princesas de Byeokrangguk. Las tres princesas trajeron con ellas un pony, un ternero y 5 semillas diferentes, que con el tiempo ayudarían a establecer la agricultura en Jeju.
