El museo fue inaugurado en el año 1995 en homenaje al maestro Kim Sung-kok, fundador de la compañía Ssangyong. Es una institución pública, cuya finalidad es estructurar el servicio de bienestar social por medio del arte y la cultura. La exposición está enfocada a las obras artísticas que interpretan y reflejan la tradición, las costumbres y el color folclórico de Corea, en un entorno moderno. Más allá de las exhibiciones, también apoya a los nuevos artistas, por medio de proyectos como el “Concurso Artístico de Sungkok”, y el “Artista del Futuro”. Está compuesto por el edificio principal, el edificio anexo y un parque de esculturas. También dispone de una cafetería y una tienda de artículos artísticos.

Puerta Gwanghuimun (광희문)

La puerta Gwanghuimun fue construida en el año 1396, durante el 5º año del rey Taejo, en el sureste de la capital (Seúl). Se suele conocer también como puerta Sugumun (puerta del canal de agua) y fue usada como Sigumun, que literalmente significa 'puerta del cadáver', ya que las procesiones funerales pasaban por esta puerta cuando salían por el este.

Durante la Guerra Imjin (invasión japonesa de 1592 a 1598), las puertas de la fortaleza fueron destruidas a tal grado que fue practicamente imposible encontrar el lugar original de su localización. Sin embargo, los esfuerzos de reconstrucción se iniciaron en 1711 (37º año del reinado de Sukjong) y la puerta del canal de agua fue restaurada con forma de torre. Desde ese momento, la puerta quedó intacta, incluso cuando los muros de la fortaleza fueron derrumbados para construir caminos durante la ocupación japonesa, pero la Guerra de Corea la dejó con graves daños y quedó abandonada. En 1975, empezaron los trabajos de reconstrucción para recolocar la puerta Gwanghuimun a 15 metros más al sur de su localización original, que se encontraba en medio de la carretera.

The house can be rented either as individual accommodations or in its entirety. As it is situated in Jongno-gu, at the very heart of Seoul, guests can easily reach many nearby major tourist attractions. Car users are advised to use the public parking lot as the house has no parking spaces. Entering by a small gate, the little flowerbed comes into sight. This old hanok shows traces of repair works on the tiled roof.

Founded and opened by Monk Jeongsan, Sanchon is a vegan-friendly restaurant that mainly serves temple foods. The dishes found here are a results of Kim Yun-sik, who was inspired by the simple, clean and healthy diet that a Buddhist practitioner taught him years ago. Now, being a top authority on vegetarian food in Korea, Kim Yun-sik helped perfect the standard and quality of temple food.

The dishes are made with all natural ingredients such as vegetables and mountain herbs, and are cooked without chemical additives. The actual dishes served vary by season, and in order to meet the tastes of the general public, the restaurant includes "five spices" (garlic, shallots, mountain leeks, etc.), which monks are typically not allowed to eat. Those who would like their food without these ingredients are asked to make their request at least one day prior to visiting.
