La ligne maritime 'Ara' désigne la ligne qui relie l'aval du fleuve Han à la mer de l'Ouest. Ce chemin fut ouvert au 13ème siècle durant la dynastie Gojong (royaume Goryo) avant d'être un lieu de passage pour navires durant la période de la dynastie Joseon. Ouvert en 2007, L’institut National des Ressources Biologiques détient la plus grande collection de ressources biologiques et d’équipements de conservation de toute l’Asie. L’institut collecte, manage et conduit des recherches sur les ressources biologiques dans le but de centraliser toutes les ressources biologiques du nord de l’Asie. Situé à la droite de la société de management Sudokwon Landfill dans le quartier de Seo-gu de la ville d’Incheon, l’institut est divisé en deux parties distinctes, différenciées par l’architecture originale et grandiose du bâtiment : le bâtiment en forme d’épines contient les collections principales et des centres de recherches tandis que le bâtiment en forme de feuille présente les expositions et inclus des centres d’éducation. Le hall d’exposition présente à lui seul pas moins de 3 905 specimens de 1 287 espèces originales en présentation. De plus, une forêt, une rivière, une lac, un estran et un écosystème maritime coréens ont été recréés via des modèles réduits avec un très haut niveau de détail à l’intérieur de ce bâtiment, afin que les visiteurs puissent améliorer leurs connaissances sur les majeurs écosystèmes coréens. Un petit restaurant est situé à l’intérieur du centre de recherche et une belle pelouse en face de l’institut raviront les amateurs de pic-nic.
