Synopsis
Namwon Newly-appointed Governor’s Procession, which started in 2007, takes the story of “Chunhyangjeon” set in Namwon as its motif. Programs
Namwon, designated as Korea’s first culture city in 2014, continues trying to preserve its culture in various ways, for example by dramatizing “Chunhyangjeon,” the folktale loved even by people today. Namwon Newly-appointed Governor’s Procession started in 2007 as a performance led by citizens, so ordinary people, not professional performers, are encouraged to join, plan, and direct the performance. The parade from the Plaza of Love to Gwanghalluwon Garden does not just reenact the folk tale but also provides various traditional dance and music performances. Amid the parade and outdoor performances, visitors can also enjoy plentiful activities such as wearing traditional clothes, experiencing the punishment of the Joseon dynasty, and a photo event.
