Seongwangsa Temple is located in the quiet downtown area of Eupnae-dong, Seosan in Chungcheongnam-do. Its convenient location makes it easily accessible from almost anywhere in town.

The temple was built by Great Monk Daegyeong in 928 in the late Silla period and the scholar Choi Chiwon came here to study while he was serving as the governor of Buseong-gun (currently Seosan) in 893. Originally, the temple was called Samseonam, or Three Hermitages, for there had been three hermitages in the upper, middle, and lower part of Buchunsan Mountain. During the late Joseon dynasty, the hermitages in the upper and middle part were closed and only the one at the bottom survived. In 1987, the name was changed to Seogwangsa Temple.

Samseonsan Arboretum is a nature experience learning center and home to over 1,160 different species of plants. In addition to outdoor gardens where you can enjoy a variety of flowers and trees, there are also 10 facilities including an exhibition greenhouse, Kid's Dream Forest, and Korean Peninsula Park. It also features 23 exhibit gardens such as a hydrangea garden and azalea garden. Moreover, the arboretum presents diverse and beautiful sceneries during each season and is well-equipped with convenience facilities including a children's playground in the forest, a picnic area, cafe, and a water play area. Hanil Sikdang has served someori gukbap (beef head meat and rice soup) in front of Sapgyo Station for nearly 70 years. Someori gukbap (beef head meat and rice soup) is a soup boiled with beef head meat, beef offal, radish, and dried radish leaves, using a broth simmered with beef head and bones. The soup is kept boiling in a massive cast iron pot all day long. When a bowl is ordered, the soup is ladled into a hot pot and garnished with meat and green onions. The someori gukbap (beef head meat and rice soup) here is slightly spicy.
