Gapyeong Baengnyeonsa Temple (백련사(가평))

Baengnyeonsa Temple is surrounded by mountains, as it is located off Yongmunsan, Myeongjisan, and Daegeumsan Mountains. On each side of the temple, one can also find Unaksan Mountain as well as Cheonmasan Mountain. In addition, just behind the temple are Chungnyeongsan Mountain and Seorisan Mountain.

This temple was built relatively recently, so the temple only has a few cultural treasures. However, as compared to the average temple in Korea, it is distinguished by its well-designed and refined architectures. The decorations in the temple are simple, with no overly vibrant colors nor complicated designs so as to help in seeking peace and inspiration.

The temple is also known for its hiking trails and beautiful scenery offered by the surrounding mountains.

The green waters of the lake and the sharply cut cliffs above make a picture-perfect landscape. Kalbongsan Recreational Forest is located between Gyeongbangyegok Valley, famous for Surakpokpo Falls, and Yongchugyegok Valley, famous for Yongchupokpo Falls. Yongchugyegok Valley (용추계곡)

Located in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do, this picturesque valley takes its source from the 900-meter high Kalbongsan Mountain, winding around Ongnyeobong Peak. Stretching over 24 km, it is home to nine remarkable sights, earning it the nicknames "Nine Okgye Valleys" and "Nine Yongchu Valleys." Blanketed by pine nut forests, the valley’s clear waters flow past rocky walls and ridges, forming natural pools along its course. A notable highlight is the 5-meter tall Yongchupokpo Falls about 6 kilometers upstream, accompanied by a legend of a dragon’s ascent to heaven; a deep groove in the adjacent sloping rock is believed to be the dragon’s resting spot. Flanked by Yumyeongsan, Jungmisan, and Eobisan Mountains, the valley offers an excellent short hiking route for a half-day excursion.

Myeongjigyegok Valley stretches eastward from the summit of Myeongjisan Mountain (alt. 1,267 m), the second highest mountain in Gyeonggi-do. The entrance to the valley offers several convenient amenities, including restaurants, public restrooms, and accommodations. In the valley itself, clean water powerfully cascades over rocks. Forests line both sides of the valley entrance, and a trail leads to Seungcheonsa Temple. Myeongjipokpo Falls, nearly an hour's walk from the valley entrance, is just 7~8 meters high, but is extremely beautiful in fall.

Located at the foot of Kalbong Mountain in Gapyeong, BROOK5 is a large-scale pension that offers 20 different room types, including pool villas, kid-friendly rooms, and standard guest rooms. There are five pool villas, and two kid-friendly rooms with an indoor jungle gym, baby bathtub, milk bottle sterilizer, and potty training seats. Each room has a kitchen and barbecue area. Only some of the guest rooms have whirlpool bathtubs, so make sure to check the availability in advance. The Chi-ong Art Museum is a cultural space spreading up the slope of Cheongnyeongsan Mountain in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do. The site incorporates an art gallery, meeting rooms, a Korean restaurant and hanok lodgings. Inside the lofty gate is a spacious yard, pavilion and pond, and a wooden veranda and tea room at the top. Visitors can experience a traditional tea ceremony, cloth dyeing, and mask making, rice cake and tofu makingl and boudoir handicrafts. With no TV or Internet, this is a place of peace and quiet.
