Jirisan National Park is the first national park established in South Korea, featuring peaks like Cheonwangbong Peak (1,915m), Banyabong Peak, and Nogodan Peak, which rank as the next highest after Halla Mountain. It's a popular destination for mountain enthusiasts, offering beautiful natural landscapes such as Naewonsagyegok Valley. Along with Geumgangsan Mountain and Hallasan Mountain, Jirisan Mountain is known to be one of the most sacred mountains in Korea. It was named ‘Jiri’ because it was believed to be a place that turns the innocent into the wise. On December 29, 1967 Jirisan National Park was declared the nation’s first and biggest national park. Its 440.517 square kilometer area covers Hadong, Sancheon and Hamyang in Gyeongsangnam-do; Gurye in Jeollanam-do ; and Namwon in Jeollabuk-do region. The total area is seven times that of Gyeryongsan National Park and 52 times that of all of Yeouido Island in Seoul.

At 1,915.4 meters high, Cheonwangbong Peak is the second highest peak in Jirisan National Park. Countless valleys and waterfalls surround the peak, as well as trails connecting to other peaks within the park.

Hadong Tea Museum (하동야생차박물관)

The Hadong Tea Museum is located at the foot of Jirisan Mountain in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do. It aims to promote the tea culture of the area, the first tea producer in the nation, while advertising the quality and superiority of Hadong green tea. The center is located adjacent to the tea farming area and Ssanggyesa Temple, one of the most famous tourist attractions in Korea.

The museum features an exhibition hall explaining the history and culture associated with Korean tea, and an experience hall where visitors can enjoy hands-on programs like making tea and learning traditional tea etiquette, as well as a shop selling high-quality tea produced in the region. Every year, the museum also hosts the Hadong Wild Tea & Culture Festival every year.

Jianjae Pass, renowned for its picturesque winding roads, is a celebrated attraction in Hamyang. It was also selected as one of the "100 Most Beautiful Roads in Korea." While the pass is navigable by car, it's best appreaciated by stopping to soak in the views from the observation deck. An observatory is situated at the end of Jianjae Pass, providing visitors with an excellent vantage point for capturing stunning photographs.

Road to Jirisan is a 12 km road from Hamyang-eup to the vicinity of Jirisanjeilmun Gate. You go through Jianjae Pass and Odojae Pass to Macheon, where you will find Jirisanjeilmun Gate and Jirisan View Park. From here, you can see the entire ridge of Jirisan Mountain, and there are also hiking trails to Beophwasan Mountain and Sambongsan Mountain. The road is also renowned for its biking trails and attracts many motorcycle enthusiasts.

This hotel is located about 300 m away from Jirisan National Park’s Nambu Visitor Center. Built with red bricks and having an orange roof and grass lawn, the hotel resembles a country home. The hotel is surrounded by Jirisan Mountain to the back, and the Masancheon Stream, a branch of Seomjingang River, flowing through the area offers a great view for the visitors. There are five types of rooms, accommodating 2, 4, and 6 guests. A cleaning service is offered every day. The rooms have white walls and wood floorboards, tastefully furnished in a minimalist style. The wide windows offer a great view of the lawn and the mountains. All rooms other than the 4-person ondol (under-the-floor heating system) room are bedrooms, and the 6-person Special Room comes with a wooden terrace. Visitors can enjoy grilling by the valley. The hotel is located about 10 min by car from Gurye Public Bus Terminal. Hwaeomsa Temple, a temple with a thousand-year history, is located only 2 km away from the hotel, while a 10-min drive brings one to Gurye Fifth-day Market and “Unjoru House, Gurye,” which is the Folk Cultural Heritage No. 8 of Korea.

Jirisan National Park covers a vast amount of land in three provinces, including one city and three counties. The countless mountain peaks both large and small blend harmoniously, giving off a comforting ambiance. The valleys feature streams, waterfalls, and more natural attractions beautiful all year round. The mountain is the starting point for the Seomjingang River, which flows into the southern sea.

The park is home to many plants and animals, including the Asiatic black bear. There are many hiking paths crossing the park; it is recommended to make a plan for the courses in advance, checking the lengths and time required. As Jirisan Mountain changes with the different seasons, hikers can enjoy various aspects of the mountain’s terrain. However, some areas will be closed off for hikers' safety in the case of incliment weather or to prevent forest fires in the dry season.

Samseonggung is a Taoist shrine located at 850 meters above sea level on Jirisan Mountain. It serves as a spiritual hub for practicing Sinseondo, embodying traditional Korean culture. In 1983, Kang Min-ju (Taoist Priest Hanpul), along with his disciples, restored the sodo, a sacred altar from the Gojoseon period. This shrine stands as a revered sanctuary, honoring the primal ancestors of the Korean people: Hwanin (Lord of Heaven), Hwanung (Supreme Divine Regent), and Dangun (legendary founder of Gojoseon).

Jirisan Lake Resort stands on a hillside overlooking the Gumakje Lake, which was created by water from the Surakpokpo Fall of the Jirisan Mountain. Shiri Pension is a wooden pension surrounded by beautiful nature of Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do. In front is the Seomjingang River along with the flowing waters of Piagol Valley, and behind stretches the ridges of Jirisan Mountain. The landscape itself can be the reason for you to stay here. It also provides a free pick-up service at Hwagae Intercity Bus Terminal, which means it is highly accessible. All six rooms finished with wood have spacious, split-level structure. Haebichi and Prugio are detached pensions that provide cozy stay while Miribyeol and Narsha has a terrace where a tent is installed for camping mood. Each pension has a living room with a kitchen that is equipped with a rice cooker, gas range, and microwave oven, enough tools for cooking. Basically two and up to four air-conditioners are installed to cool the sweat in hot summer. There are lots of things to enjoy, including the barbecue in the terrace in front of the room, outdoor swimming pool operated in summer, and rafting on the Seomjingang River.
