El Parque Jungoe es un espacio público que permite tomar un descanso y respirar aire fresco en medio de la ciudad. El templo Mugaksa se localiza en el monte Yeouisan, también la anterior base de la escuela militar Sangmudae. Se construyó originalmente para el entrenamiento espiritual de los militares de la escuela. Luego, la escuela se trasladó; pero el templo se mantuvo en su lugar y ahora forma parte del Parque Memorial del 18 de Mayo. Por ubicarse en la zona urbana de Sangmu, el mayor distrito financiero y administrativo de Gwangju, en muchas ocasiones se le compara con el templo budista Bongeunsa, que se encuentra ubicado en el área de Gangnam de Seúl. Con sus espacios culturales y sociales como un café literario, una casa del té coreano, etc., rompe la imagen estereotipada de un templo budista buscando una mayor comunicación con los ciudadanos.

El Museo de Arte de Gwangju se fundó el 1° de agosto de 1992 y ha estado bajo el mantenimiento del Comité Bienal de Gwangju desde que se abrió la Sala Bienal en 1995 y se incorporó la Sede de apoyo Bienal, en 1996. El lugar expone 560 piezas de arte, que van desde las obras de artistas coreanos clásicos como Heo Baekryeon, O Jiho, Yang Sua o Im Jiksun, hasta el trabajo de artistas modernos. Para intentar revivir la industria del arte en la región, este museo exhibe habitualmente diferentes exposiciones y realiza programas educativos. La Sala Principal, el Centro de promoción de la educación y la Sala Bienal, son las tres secciones del museo de Gwangju. Hay 18 galerías y 2 salones para los visitantes.
