Luego de la demolición de la casa que habitó durante 30 años, Sim Jaedeok, apodado Mr. Toilet, construyó esta casa con la forma de baño para celebrar la fundación de la Asociación Mundial de Baños (WTA, por sus siglas en inglés). La llamó Haewoojae, que significa "casa para liberar las preocupaciones", un término utilizado en los templos budistas para referirse a los baños.

Su construcción comenzó en mayo de 2007, a cargo del arquitecto Go Giung, y finalizó el 11 de noviembre del mismo año. Haewoojae ha sido registrada en 2007 como la escultura dedicada a los baños más grande de Corea y en su momento captó la atención de medios nacionales e internacionales.

Luego de la muerte de Sim Jaedeok, su familia donó la residencia a la ciudad de Suwon, en julio de 2009, siguiendo su voluntad. El Ayuntamiento decidió remodelar el lugar para homenajear a Mr. Toilet, convirtiéndolo en una exhibición cultural.
