The city of Cheongju, together with UNESCO, commemorates the inscription of "Jikji" onto the UNESCO Memory of the World Register and presents the UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the preservation and utilization of the UNESCO Memory of the World, thereby promoting the great cultural heritage of Cheongju, the birthplace of movable metal type, and Korea in general. “Jikji,” or Jikji Simche Yojeol: Anthology of Great Buddhist Priests' Zen Teachings, is the oldest book in the world to be printed with movable metal type.
The Exhibition Center for Modern and Contemporary Printing introduces how the history of Korean printing has developed, starting from the introduction of lead type at the end of the 19th Century to the present-day Korean printing technology and its future directions. It is a place where one can learn how the Korean printing culture came to be in modern times, and what directions it will take as the world moves forward. Printing experience classes for children, families, and adults are available. They are expected to assist the visitors in understanding modern and contemporary printing culture.

Geumgang Pedestrian Bridge, a new landmark of Sejong-si, opened in March 2022. First two-story bridge in Korea, the large scale bridge with circular design provide various areas for activities. The upper part of the bridge is for pedestrian with rest area and convenience facilities, where as the lower part is a bicycle only road for those wanting exercise and smooth riding.

Cheongju Heungdeoksa Temple Site (청주 흥덕사지)

A large number of relics were unearthed at this site due to a land development project in 1985. Work was halted and relics were excavated by the Cheongju University Museum. The time and size of Heungdeoksa Temple is unknown, but according to Jikji (Buljojikjisimcheyojeol, the world’s oldest existing book printed with movable metal type), the excavated books were printed using metal types at the temple in the third year of King Uwang’s reign (1377). The books were published 78 years earlier than Gutenberg’s invention.

In 1972, the Jikji was officially recognized as the world’s oldest book printed with movable metal type during the International Book Year. The Buljojikjisimcheyojeol is currently kept at the National Library of France.

63beon-gil is a Korean restaurant situated near Daedeok Techno Valley, renowned for its gomtang (beef bone soup). This soup is crafted by simmering Korean beef brisket and chuck eye roll for an extended duration. The menu showcases various dishes incorporating Korean beef, such as gomtang, yukhoe (beef tartare), and yukhoe bibimbap (beef tartare bibimbap). Moreover, the establishment features a gallery and café on the second floor for visitors to enjoy.

Cheongju Yonghwasa Temple (용화사(청주))

This temple was founded in 1902. Yonghwasa Temple can be found about 2 kilometers down the small road from a National Road connecting Judeok-eup, Cheongju, with Eumseong. Unlike other Buddhist temples, which tend to be located in secluded places, Yonghwasa Temple is easily reachable from the city, attracting many visitors. Set against a backdrop of green lawns and forests, the temple's stupas, stelae, three-story stone pagodas, and guardian trees bring Buddhist culture to life. A Goryeo-era Standing Stone Buddha, a cultural heritage, can be found in the complex. Its elegant and full body, round face, and delicate expression of folds in the Buddha’s clothing all showcase the unique qualities of Goryeo-era Buddhist sculptures. The Buddha holds a medicine bowl in the left hand, which heals all diseases and eliminates all distractions in pursuit of truth.

Solbat Mukjip is a restaurant celebrated for its 40-year tradition in crafting dotorimuk (acorn jelly salad), a culinary specialty of Daejeon. The city is so famed for its acorn jelly that it hosts an acorn jelly village. The restaurant's standout dish is chaemuk (chilled acorn jelly and rice soup), a delightful blend of chopped acorn jelly immersed in broth and garnished with sour chopped kimchi, sesame oil, laver flakes, and roasted sesame powder. Hyanggyo is a national educational institution from the Joseon dynasty that housed the tablets of esteemed Confucian scholars and held rituals in their honor. It consists of six hanok buildings, including the Daeseongjeon Hall, a space for rituals, and Myeongnyundang Hall, the space for education. Today, various Confucian cultural experience programs, such as Confucian student experiences, tea ceremonies, and calligraphy classes, are offered. They also provide accommodations for guests wishing to experience a "Hyanggyo Stay."
