Se cree que este templo fue fundado hacia el año 1208, los tiempos del rey Heejong, de la dinastía Goryeo. Hasta la Guerra de Corea se conservaban varios de sus pabellones más antiguos, pero muchos fueron destruidos. Recién en 1978 se levantaron nuevamente varios de ellos. En las cercanías, a exactamente 2 km hacia el este están las Cascadas Manyeon y hay un bosque que atrae a muchos turistas de pícnic y campamento.

El Museo Nacional de Naju abrió sus puertas el 22 de noviembre de 2013 para conservar y presentar reliquias antiguas y patrimonios culturales de la región de Honam. Siendo el primer museo nacional ubicado en medio de campo en vez del centro urbano, funciona como parque histórico y es un lugar de descanso para los visitantes.

Gracias al encuentro entre la tecnología avanzada y el sector cultural, el Museo Nacional de Naju se ha convertido en un nuevo espacio cultural abierto. El museo es el primero en Corea en introducir la tecnología de NFC (comunicación de campo cercano, en español) aplicada al teléfono inteligente. Por eso, los visitantes pueden recibir las descripciones sobre el material expuesto en su teléfono inteligente y compartir esta información con otras personas mediante las redes sociales.

El público puede observar los artículos guardados por medio de la ventana grande en dos de los seis depósitos. También, la azotea está abierto al público, por lo que el museo logró ampliar su espacio de exhibiciones y dar a los ciudadanos más oportunidad de conocer la historia de su localidad.
