Le village Balsan est un village typique de Gwangju. Le village historique avait accueilli des réfugiés de la guerre de Corée avant d'attirer des travailleurs dans les années 1970 et 1980, notamment pour le travail en usine. Le site a été aménagé avec des peintures murales et différents espaces publics pour restaurer complètement les lieux.

Située dans le centre de Gwangju, ville industrielle et culturelle, la Gare de Gwangju est une gare représentative dans la province sud-ouest de la péninsule coréenne. Elle fut ouverte en 1922 et fut déplacée à son endroit actuel en juillet 1969. En 2004, elle lança le KTX (le TGV coréen). De là, les trains partent en direction des gares de Yongsan (Séoul), Mokpo, Daejeon, et Suncheon.

Gwangju est la seule métropole et le seul centre de réseaux de transports dans le sud-ouest de la Corée. Elle accueille une variété de festivals et évènements internationaux tels que la Biennale de Gwangju (exposition d’art internationale) et le Festival Mondial de la Culture du Kimchi. La Gare de Gwangju est donc bondée de touristes toute l’année. Les attractions touristiques situées à proximité sont le Mont Mudeungsan et les Temples Jeungsimsa et Wonhyosa.
