Jung-gu is the heart of Daejeon Metropolitan City and is home to Bomunsan Mountain and Banghwasan Mountain. Bomunsan Mountain is located in the southern part of the city and was once called "Bomulsan" meaning "treasure mountain" because it was believed that treasure was buried in the mountain. Bomunsan Mountain was designated as a park in 1965. There are many mineral springs and the azaleas and cherry blossoms that bloom in spring. In autumn, the leaves change to a beautiful color in the maple forest. This park has the Bomunsanseong Fortress and Bomunsa Temple Site, an outdoor music hall, an observatory, amusement facilities, a cable car, and about 10 hiking trails, making it a great place to exercise. There are also recreational facilities such as mountain climbing as well as leisure facilities including an indoor roller skating rink in Sajeong Park, soccer field, outdoor music hall, Greenland, and Youth Square.

The Bomunsan Forest Trail is a 13-kilometer walking trail that circles Bomunsan Mountain. The dense forest along the trail creats a cool shade to walk under and boasts beautiful fall foliage in autumn.

Okcheon Hyangsu Baengni (100-ri) Bike Road is a bicycle path located along the riverside of Geumgang River, where one can enjoy the beauty of Daecheongho Lake and the spirit of poetry in the hometown of Jeong Jiyong, one of Korea's modern poets. Visitors can also stop at Jeong Jiyong Birth House & Literature Library and Janggye Tourist Park by biking along National Highway Route 37, which is famous for cherry blossoms. This bicycle path is relatively easy to travel on and is suitable for beginners. It became even more popular after being featured on the TV show "1 Night 2 Days."

Hyo Culture Ppuri Festival (대전효문화뿌리축제)

Held at the nation’s only filial duty-themed park, the Ppuri Park, the Daejeon K-Hyo Festa is a traditional cultural event dedicated to finding the roots of the ancestry of unique family clans and learning traditional filial piety. The festival features various experiences related to surnames and filial duty, along with popular flea markets and food zones. In 2022, it received a Special Award at the Korea Festival Contents Awards.

Daedong Sky Park was formed as part of the Rainbow Project on December 2009. A giant windmill, which represents the park, is located 127 meters above sea level. Visitors can see an amazing panoramic view of the city as well as relax at one of the many benches and pagodas. A mural village connected to the Sky Park offers themed coffee shops and has become a popular attraction.

Daeheung-dong Culture and Arts Street (대흥동 문화예술의거리)

The Daeheung-dong area is the original downtown of Daejeon. There are buildings and cafes that evoke a sophisticated urban image, while landscapes reminiscent of the 1970s and 80s coexist. In addition, there are old alleys, art supply stores, small theaters, and galleries.

Sonamujip (소나무집)

The signature dish here is ojingeo jjigae (squid stew) made by adding whole radish and water to spicy stir-fried squid and simmering it into a hearty stew. However, most visitors who visit Sonamujip add noodles to their ojingeo jjigae, turning it into what’s known as ojingeo kalguksu (noodle soup with squid). Ojingeo jjigae is a great example of how people in Daejeon enjoy adding their own twist on kalguksu.

Seodaejeon Park (서대전공원)

Seodaejeon Park is located at the site of a previous military base that closed in 1975. The site served as the venue for the 1993 Daejeon Expo, and was turned into the current park visitors see now at that time. The park features a large grassy field, outdoor performance stage, and more. The park serves as the venue for various festivals throughtout the year, including a Children's Day event and Kalguksu festival.

Jangtaesan Recreational Forest (장태산자연휴양림)

Jangtaesan Recreational Forest consists of a dense forest of ginkgo trees and bald cypress. Lush valleys nearby make for a great getaway during summer vacation. Yongtaeul Reservoir, located at the entrance, gives beautiful views as well. Inside the natural recreation forest, various facilities including walking paths, physical activity facilities, a botanical garden and bare-foot walking paths are available for visitors.
