Chamsut Kkeomeok Doeji is a black pork restaurant that has been open for a long time in Gwangmyeong. The place serves black pork raised in the nature of Jirisan Mountain, 700 meters above sea level. The pork skin and fat are the highlights of the black pork belly. The more the meat is chewed on, the richer in flavor it becomes. Freshwater snail, leaf wraps and rice, kimchi jjigae, braised aged kimchi (has a more sour and deep taste than regular kimchi), spicy stir-fried pork, and cold buckwheat noodles are also available, perfect dishes for eating with grilled pork.

The origins of Uijeongbu’s budaejjigae (Sausage Jjigae) tradition trace back to a humble food stall, now operated by the third generation. As budaejjigae grew in popularity, this modest stall evolved into a dedicated restaurant specializing in the iconic dish.

The word “budaejjigae” has two parts: “budae”, or military unit, and “jjigae,” a dish made by boiling ingredients and stock in a pot. It originates from the post-Korean War period, where processed meat from US Army bases was made into a jjigae with vegetables, glass noodles, ramyeon, and the like. While the exact origin of the dish is difficult to establish, a strong tradition of sausage jjigae was established in Uijeongbu, thanks to its proximity to US Army bases. These geographical characteristics created today’s Uijeongbu Budaejjigae Street. Starting with Odeng Sikdang, the origin of the street, restaurants specializing in sausage jjigae entered the area, creating a specialized street and a landmark of Uijeongbu.

Gwangmyeong Cave was developed in 1912 during the Japanese colonial period to exploit resources, including gold mines, and continued to be developed for industrial purposes after liberation. After the mine was closed in 1972, it was used as a salted seafood warehouse for about 40 years. Gwangmyeong City purchased the site, reorganized it, and made it available to the public. It is currently recognized as a modern industrial heritage site with high historical value, and is well known as a cave theme park in the metropolitan area. Along with the cave, colorful lights and sculptures create a spectacular sight. Aside from tasting and purchasing Korean wine at the Gwangmyeong Wine Cave, visitors can also see the largest media art piece in Korea at the Lascaux Exhibition Hall, enjoying a more diverse travel experience.
