Gyejoksan Red Clay Trail opened in 2006 as the nation's first eco-healing barefoot walking trail. Walking along this 14.5-kilometer-long trail filled with the fresh aroma of pine needles is a great way to get healthy. The Gyejoksan Mountain Barefoot Festa takes place every year in May and additional weekend programs are available from April to October. Visitors can also enjoy a view of downtown Daejeon from Gyejoksanseong Fortress, which was built during the time of the Three Kingdoms.

Chungnam Sundae is celebrated for its Sundae gukbap (sundae and rice soup), a dish steeped in rich flavors. This soup is carefully prepared by simmering a mix of pork head meat, liver, and intestines in a broth derived from pork bones, all served in a hot pot. Infused with abundant chopped green onions and a touch of spicy soy sauce, it offers a spicy kick while maintaining a pleasant aroma free from any undesirable odors. Myeongjae Old House in Nonsan, Chungcheonbuk-do, was the house of Yun Jeung, a Joseon scholar of King Sukjong’s time. The house stands open to the village without a tall gate or fence, and consists of a sarangchae (men’s house) and gotganchae (storehouse) arranged protectively around the anchae (women’s house). The sarangchae has three guest rooms and a porch offering scenic views. Bathrooms and toilets are modern and clean. There is a thatched outbuilding with sound equipment and a beam projector for meetings. Cultural experience programs offered include traditional Korean music, a tea ceremony, and natural dyeing.

Historic Site of General Gyebaek (계백장군 유적지)

Gyebaek (? - 660) was a general in the ancient Korean kingdom of Baekje. This historic site is not far from Hwangsanbeol, the last battlefield of General Gyebaek who fell defending Baekje at the end of its days. Allied troops from Silla and Tang attacked Tanhyeon and Baekgang, strategic sites held by Baekje, in 660 (the 20th year of King Uija’s reign).

General Gyebaek and his 5,000 soldiers fought against General Kim Yu-sin and his 50,000 soldiers. General Gyebaek successfully defeated the allied troops four times, but was ultimately unable to overcome the insurmountable numbers brought to bear by his foe. The Baekje army was finally defeated, and the last general of Baekje, Gyebaek, died in the battle.

Geumgang Recreational Forest (Arboretum, Forest Museum) (금강자연휴양림(금강수목원,산림박물관))

Along the river from Gongju toward Daejeon there is Geumgang River to the right. Following this river, there is a red arch-shaped bridge on the right called Bultigyo Bridge. Geumgang Recreational Forest, a large and well-organized forest, is located on the other side of this bridge. In the past, this remote village can only be reached by boat. In 1994, the Chungnam Forest Environment Research Institute moved to this area and designated the well-preserved dense forest as Geumgang Recreational Forest, and the Forest Museum opened in October 1997. Geumgang Recreational Forest is different from other recreational forests. Rather than a dense forest with a trail, this forest has a variety of attractions such as the Forest Museum, an arboretum, greenhouse, pond, and wildlife park scattered on well-maintained roads, giving the impression of a city park.

Daedunsan Mountain offers spectacular views and various scenic spots like Gunjigyegok Valley, Surakpokpo Falls, Macheondae Seonnyeopokpo Falls, Nakjodae Peak, Surakgyegok Valley, and more. In particular, the one-kilometer-high cliff and the unique rock formations at Surakpokpo Falls provide great scenery.

Surakpokpo Falls and Gunjigyegok Valley are at the entrance of the hiking trail that leads up to Daedunsan Mountain. It is about a two-hour hike from Surakgyegok Valley to Macheondae Peak on Daedunsan Mountain.

Surakgyegok Valley is a valley located in the northern part of Daedunsan Provincial Park. Enveloped by forests and flowing streams, it offers opportunities for forest bathing, and its moderate temperatures even in the summer make it suitable for leisure activities. Throughout the valley, visitors can find waterfalls such as Surakpokpo Falls and Seonnyeopokpo Falls. A notable feature of this area is the steep iron staircase nestled between cliffs, leading from the valley to the summit of Daedunsan Mountain, which is a highlight of the area.

E-An Land (이안숲속)

E-An Land Forest was established in 1999 when 1,836 arbor species and 1,418 herb species were planted on a land area of 1,118 hectares. The forest features a tropical garden and various other exhibition gardens, as well as thematic spaces like the Haneul Maru. The forest was finally completed in 2006. Inside the arboretum, there are various things to see such as the herb village, parakeet exhibitions, a pine tree garden, and man-made cave. There is also a mini golf course and an outdoor swimming pool. Visitors can also use the onsite pensions and the auto camping site for accommodation, making the E-An Land Forest a great place for family and group visitors.
