El Centro de Arte ARKO fue fundado en 1974 como Misulhoegwan en un edificio del antiguo Hospital Deoksu en Gwanhun-dong, Jongno-gu, Seúl, para ofrecer un espacio de exposiciones que resultaba muy necesario para artistas y grupos artísticos. En 1979, Misulhoegwan se mudó a su edificio actual, diseñado por el preeminente arquitecto coreano Kim Swoo-geun (1931-1986) y ubicado en el Parque Marronnier, el antiguo terreno de la Universidad Nacional de Seúl. Los dos edificios de ladrillo vecinos que albergan el Centro de Arte ARKO y el Teatro de Artes ARKO son los principales puntos de referencia del área de Daehakro.

A medida que más museos públicos y privados y galerías comerciales ingresaron a la escena artística en la década de 1990, Misulhoegwan pasó a curar y presentar sus propias exposiciones. Renombrado como Centro de Arte Marronnier en 2002, el Centro de Arte ARKO asumió un sistema de museo integral de arte y desempeñó un papel cada vez más destacado como organización de arte pública líder en cuanto al paradigma del arte contemporáneo. Cuando la Fundación para la Cultura y las Artes de Corea renació como Consejo de las Artes de Corea, el Centro de Arte Marronnier se convirtió en el Centro de Arte ARKO, con el nombre de la abreviatura de Consejo de las Artes de Corea en 2005.

El Centro de Arte ARKO se compromete a funcionar como una plataforma donde la investigación, la producción, las exposiciones y el intercambio de actividades creativas crezcan y se desarrollen en conexión entre sí, además de contar con una diversidad de programas que incluyen exposiciones temáticas que abordan la agenda social y programas públicos que promueven ampliamente diversos discursos en el mundo del arte.

Parque Sajik de Seúl (사직공원(서울))

El parque Sajik es uno de los tres parques más famosos en Jongno-gu, junto con los parques Tapgol y Samcheong. Situado al oeste de Cheong Wa Dae, cerca del monte Inwangsan, el parque tiene unas impresionantes dimensiones de 188.710 m².

El nombre del parque fue elegido en 1395, cuando Taejo Lee Sung-gye hizo su primer Sajikdan (altar a los dioses del Estado) junto con el santuario Jongmyo, en el centro del parque. "Sa" se refiere a la deidad de la Tierra, mientras que "jik" hace referencia a la deidad de los cinco granos. Varios rituales por buenas cosechas tuvieron lugar regularmente en el Sajikdan; sin embargo, el área no fue reconocida como un parque hasta 1922, durante el período colonial japonés.

En el parque se encuentran muchos parques infantlies, estatuas de Shin Saimdang, Hwanghakjeong y Yi I (nombrado a menudo por su nombre de escritor, Yulgok), y la Biblioteca Municipal Infantil. El santuario Dangun y la Biblioteca de Jongno se encuentran por la zona. Bukchonmaru Hanok Guesthouse is located between “Bukchon Views 2 and 3” on a hill in Bukchon Village in Seoul. This two-storied hanbok building with a terrace, which is rarely found among other hanok structures in the area, offers a splendid view of Seoul. In particular, the summit of a hill next to the main gate of Choong Ang High School where the guesthouse is situated is known as the filming location for the famous Korean TV series Winter Sonata (2002). When you open the main gate and go up to the first floor, a small yard is seen with a group of jars on one side. After entering the sliding door through the yard, there is daecheong maru (main floored room) that features the doors opening in all directions and a high ceiling with rafters, making the space open and cozy. The hanok building consists of two floors – the ground floor is equipped with special furniture, a jar table and a log chair made by the owner, and on the first floor are guestrooms comprised of one large room and two small rooms. The neat and clean rooms are designed in a simple way and have lovely bedding with the pattern of five cardinal colors. Its staff members can speak English and Chinese to communicate with guests from other countries. Every morning, guests engage in animated conversation while enjoying a Korean home-style breakfast prepared by the owner in a friendly atmosphere. After having breakfast, if guests want, they can try on traditional Korean clothes (hanbok) and take photographs inside and around the guesthouse to create interesting memories. The guesthouse also provides a hanbok rental service (KRW 30,000 for a day) and tourists wearing traditional Korean clothes can enter both Changdeokgung Palace and Gyeongbokgung Palace, which can be reached on foot within 10 to 15 minutes, free of charge. Moreover, guests can enjoy an open view of the area including Gahoe-dong, Gye-dong and even the lights of the Namsan Seoul Tower at night from the roof top.
