El templo Beomeosa está situado en la cresta de una montaña famosa de Busan, el monte Geumjeongsan. Fue construido hace unos 1.300 años, por el monje Uisang, en el año 18vo. (678) del rey Munmu (monarca entre 661 y 681) del Reino de Silla (reino que principalmente ocupaba la región de la actual región de Gyeongsang-do en el año 678).
 
En el atlas Donggungnyeojiseungnam hay registros acerca del origen del templo Beomeosa y versa como sigue: “Hay un manantial sobre la cima del monte Geumjeongsan y su agua dorada es como el oro. Un pez de oro descendió en nubes coloridas y nadó en estas aguas. Por ello a la montaña se la denominó Geumsaem (manantial dorado) y al templo 'pez celestial'”. Las edificaciones del original templo Beomeosa fueron destruidas durante la Guerra de Imjin (invasión japonesa al territorio coreano en 1592), pero fueron reconstruidas en 1713, las cuales permanecen hasta nuestros días.

Daeungjeon tiene uno de los estilos arquitectónicos más delicados y lujosos de la dinastía Joseon (1392-1910). En él están la puerta Iljumun, una pagoda de tres plantas con cuatro pilares, levantada en el siglo XIX, y siete alas del palacio real, pabellones, tres entradas, y once ermitas. Designado monumento natural, los bosques de westeria y los valles están en su máxima plenitud durante el mes de mayo.
