Built in 1939, Dongchonchae was designated as Seoul Well Hanok by the Seoul Metropolitan City in 2016. In 2020, this hanok (traditional Korean house) received the Certificate of KOREA QUALITY from the Korea Tourism Organization in the Heritage Hanok field in recognition of its historicity and quality of services. Dongchonjae is located in the western side of Gyeongbokgung Palace, at Seochon. When one passes through its main gate, one sees the yard, with anchae (women's quarters), sarangchae (men's quarters), and byeolchae (detached quarters) surrounding the plot. Anchae has four rooms, daecheong (wood-floored main hall), a kitchen, and a restroom. One of the rooms is used for tea ceremonies as well. Outside of the sarangchae and byeolchae, which are the living spaces for the owners, visitors have free access to the numaru (raised open floor) and the yard. The anchae’s rooms “Bom” and “Yeoreum” can accommodate 2 to 3 adults each, while the rooms “Gaeul” (Tea Room) and “Gyeoul” are optimal for two. The building is rented out as a whole, so no more than one group may stay in the building at any given time. Standard occupancy is four persons, and eight is the maximum number. There are two restrooms, one within the anchae building, one out in the backyard.
Cooking is not allowed in the kitchen, but guests are free to bring in outside food. Experience programs on offer include nighttime exploration of Seoul City Wall, tea ceremony, folk songs, and rice cake making. Additional payment is only required for rice cake making. Guests may choose between two types of complimentary breakfast: Korean, which comes with rice, soup, and three side dishes; and Western, which comes with bread, salad, and coffee. There are a 100-in screen and mini projector for film watching in the yard or daecheong. Towels, toiletries, hair dryer, bottled water, traditional tea, and capsule coffee are included. The kitchen is equipped with kitchen utensils, a microwave, and a coffee pot, enough for instant foods. Guests also have access to refrigerator and washing machine

The Smith in the restaurant’s name refers to a Mr. Smith, a virtual person cooks his favorite dishes in a hanok. One of the interesting aspects about this restaurant is that they serve hwadeok pizza (brick oven pizza) and pastas which are not the Korean dishes one might expect given the hanok exterior. They also serve salads, risotto, steak and wine at the restaurant. Particularly, the nighttime atmosphere of the restaurant offers a more serene and cozy experience thanks to the traditional hanok architecture.

Myeongdong Yeongyang Center is a 52 year-old specialty restaurant in Myeongdong. It specializes in samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) and tongdak (roasted chicken). In 1960, Yeongyang Center has started to sell tongdak roasted on an electric rotisserie. Since then, the crisp and not-at-all greasy taste has attracted popularity among local Koreans and it has become a must-visit restaurant among foreign tourists. They use chickens provided by directly owned chicken farm and the owner of the restaurant thoroughly manages all the process of cooking even from the ingredients preparation level.
Their main menus are samgyetang and tongdak. The Samgyetang features its tender meat and thick broth after boiling for 2 hours and the tongdak features crispy and not-fatty taste of the well-drained chicken. Among the menus, sansam Samgyetang stuffed with wild ginseng powder is the most be-loved menu.

Insa-dong (인사동), situé en plein centre-ville de Séoul, est un quartier important où des objets traditionnels et précieux sont exposés. Le quartier est composé d’une rue principale et d’allées connexes, où de nombreuses galeries, restaurants, cafés et salons de thés traditionnels sont situés.

Les galeries sont le coeur d’Insa-dong. Il existe environ cent galeries exposant tous types d’art allant de la peinture traditionnelle aux sculptures. Dans les galeries de renom, on retrouve « Hakgojae », considérée comme le poumon du centre des arts folkloriques, « Gana Art », qui promeut les futurs talents et le « centre des arts Gana ». Le meilleur moyen de visiter ces galeries est de prendre part à un tour en bus proposant la découverte des dix galeries les plus plus célèbres du quartier pour un prix très modéré.

Les maisons de thé et restaurants traditionnels sont des lieux parfaits pour compléter la visite de ces galeries. Il semble difficile de les repérer en premier lieu, mais prenez le temps d’explorer les allées du quartier et votre séance shopping n’en sera que plus appréciable et intéressante. Les boutiques d’Insa-dong sont très populaires auprès des personnes de tout âge.

Chaque samedi entre 14h00 et 22h00 et le dimanche de 10h00 à 22h00, certaines rues sont bloquées à la circulation, ne rendant la promenade que plus agréable. Certaines boutiques installent des stands face à leur devanture et des particuliers installent régulièrement leur boutique éphémère (vendeurs de confiseries traditionnelles coréennes et liseurs de bonne aventure). La rue laisse également place aux spectacles traditionnels et aux expositions, rendant le lieu très populaire auprès des touristes étrangers. C’est d’ailleurs à Insa-dong que ces derniers peuvent admirer des objets de culture traditionnelle coréenne et acheter des pièces d’art. Le « pajeon », crêpe coréenne traditionnelle, est un met très prisé dans le quartier, il se trouve facilement dans les échoppes et restaurants de la rue où les visiteurs viennent nombreux pour goûter les différentes saveurs proposées par les marchands.
