Le parc National du Mt. Odaesan a été désigné comme parc national en 1975. Le Mt. Odaesan fut nommé de la sorte en raison de ces 5 plateaux: Manwoldae, Jangnyeongdae, Girindae, Sangsamdae et Jigongdae.

Caractérisé par son pic d'une altitude de 1.563 mn le pic Birobong, le Mt. Odaesan s’étend vers le sud-ouest avec le Mt. Sodaesan, le pic Horyeongbong et le Mt. Sogyebangsan.

Le temple représentatif du Mt. Odaesan, le temple Woljeongsa, tient son nom de la pleine lune (man wol) qui se lève au-dessus du Manwoldae (Mt. Dongdaesan) et qui est particulièrement brillante.

Le temple abrite la fameuse pagode en forme octagonale de neuf étages (Trésor National Nº 48) et la statue de pierre du Bouddha assis (Trésor National Nº139).

Le Mt. Odaesan possède églement les plus grandes forêts naturelles de Corée. Beaucoup d’animaux sauvages y vivent alors que de nombreuses plantes sont cultivées.

La région Birobong est quant à elle reconnue pour les arbres Nuncheukbaek et ses forêts de sapins.
