Le mont Daemosan derrière le Tombeau Royal Heonilleung était appelé à l’origine « Halmisan » (signifiant grand-mère en coréen) car sa forme fait penser à une dame agée. Le mont étreint et protège le tombeau royal.
Le Tombeau Royal Heonilleung abrite les monticules de deux rois de la Dynastie Joseon : le Roi Taejong (1401-1418) et le Roi Sunjo (1800-1834). Il détient de nombreuses statues en pierre ainsi que des vestiges et est un bon endroit pour découvrir la Dynastie Joseon. Dès que l’on pénetre sur le terrain, la saisissante porte rouge au symbole du yin et du yang semble dessiner la ligne entre notre monde et celui de l’au-delà. Passer cette porte mène au bâtiment sacrificiel où des services à la mémoire des ancètres étaient accomplis. Derrière ce bâtiment se trouve le tombeau royal et sur son avant-toit des sculptures d’animaux, les « japsang », censées exorciser les esprits maléfiques sont disposées. Il y a un pavillion juste à coté du bâtiment sacrificiel où est localisée la pierre tombale. Le tombeau royal est entouré par des statues en forme d’animaux comme le tigre ou le mouton et il y aussi une statue d’un militaire solennel portant une épée avec un cheval derrière lui. Ces sculptures en pierre sont les gardiens des défunts rois.
