Die Katholische Kirche Yakhyeon ist ein kleines Kirchengebäude, das ursprünglich der Katholischen Kathedrale Myeongdong angehörte und im Jahre 1886 zu Beginn der Glaubensfreiheit errichtet wurde. 1891 suchte Priester Doucet der Katholischen Kathedrale Myeongdong den Platz für den Bau aus, woraufhin die Kirche unter der Beaufsichtigung von Priester Coste entworfen und im Jahre 1892 fertiggebaut wurde. Der Platz hieß ursprünglich Yakjeonhyeon (bedeutet etwa "Hügel mit Heilkrautfeld"), da hier damals Heilkräuter angebaut wurden, später wurde er gekürzt "Yakhyeon" genannt und so entstand auch der Name der Kirche.
